Digital Vision Boards
What is a vision board or dream board?
A vision board is a visual representation of how you envision your life and things you would like to happen along your life’s journey. It is a way to see your life as you desire it to be, and gives you a view of the steps in which you can make it happen. It is a way to use the law of attraction.
Who uses vision boards?
Vision boards are used by individuals in all walks of life. There is no specific gender, age, ethnicity, or personality type. Anyone who has dreams about their life, goals they want to reach, ideas they want to cultivate, or just about anything for that matter, may find that creating a vision board is a great tool to help them get there.
Why create a vision board?
A vision board should inspire you to take steps towards achieving your goals. Whether it is through visual reminders of what you want, or through affirmations and intentions you write out, the goal is to keep your focus on point and your motivation high. Many people find that the process of creating a vision board is energizing in and of itself. It can be fun to organize the things you want to do in the way you want to see them, and completing that initial project can get you excited to dig into your plan using the map you constructed.
Does a vision board need pictures?
A vision board does not require pictures. While images are a common element and can be powerful visual reminders of your goals, they are not essential. A vision board can be effective with just words, quotes, or even abstract symbols that represent your aspirations. The key is that it inspires and motivates you to take the steps towards manifesting your dreams.
The most important aspect of a vision board is that it reflects your specific goals and desires in a way that is meaningful to you.
How do I find pictures if I want to add them?
The internet is filled with images, and incorporating them into a digital vision board could not be easier. If you have a digital vision board, you can save them to a dedicated file in your computer then upload them to your board.
If you are creating a physical vision board, you can print out the ones you want to add to your board. You can also find pictures in magazines that can be cut out and glued or pinned to your board.
If you have photos that you have taken yourself, you can upload them to your digital vision board too.
Why create a digital vision board instead of a physical version?
Vision boards are very personal, so there is no right or wrong way to create them. It is all about preference. I find that having a digital vision board is ideal for me since I can pull it up on my phone and glance at it anytime. It is also easy to make revisions when I don’t have a lot of time. I find it is as simple as revising an electronic document. I may not have time to get to my physical board, cut out whatever I want to add, then glue or tape it on. It doesn’t feel like a chore when I’m not feeling energetic, and I am usually happy with the results.
How do I get started?
First, determine what goals you have for yourself, both for the short and long terms:
- Prioritize these goals if that is important for your journey, however, this may not be necessary depending on the nature of the goals you have listed. Don’t worry about getting this part perfect. You can make changes as you go along, which is likely to happen once you see your vision board start to take shape.
- Write down words that resonate with your goals. These are your personal buzz words. When you see or hear them, they can get your creative juices flowing.
- Determine if you want to use only text on your vision board, or if you want to include pictures as well. Whatever you choose is fine as long as it appeals to you.
How do I set up my board?
You can choose to divide your board into sections that show:
a) Personal goals (i.e., physical appearance, improve interpersonal skills, etc.)
b) Professional (i.e., new technical skills, education, certifications, etc.)
c) Hobbies (i.e., learning to sew, cook, dance, etc.)
d) Projects (i.e., home decorating, gardening, carpentry, etc.)
You can also create separate vision boards for each area of your life where you have goals you want to reach. Each board will allow you to focus on one area at a time, and may make achieving each goal seem more attainable.
So, do vision boards work?
Visualization is very powerful, and it is important that you imagine yourself being successful. A vision board allows you to see your goals mirrored back to you. You put them on your board for a reason, right? Seeing them there can increase your motivation and fuel positive action towards achieving them.
Keep in mind that you may not manifest everything you put on your vision board, but that is okay. Some of the goals may not be meant for you to achieve, or at least not in the way you imagined. A goal might look and feel like it is working out, and then it doesn’t. You may have needed to learn something from the experience, and possibly from the failure. Was it really a “failure” though? There is a saying that “rejection is God’s protection” and I can attest to the truth of that statement from some of my own life experiences. Looking back from where I sit now, I am so thankful that some things didn’t work out.
